Banned Books Week

By Denise Borck

Many thanks to Denise who has shared more of her wonderful bulletin boards.
Here are her comments on her 'Banned Books Week' display:

'This week we are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Banned Books Week. I am really enjoyed the conversations I am having with the kids about banned or challenged books. Why are books banned? What does it mean to challenge a book? Why in the world would “Where’s Waldo” be banned?! Can we still check them out even if they were banned? Did you really burn those books on the bulletin board? Those are just some of the questions our display has caused our students to ask. I also printed out the list of the top 100 banned books from the past two decades for them to look over. When students didn’t know why a book may be on the list, we went to the computer to search for the reason. This developed into some great discussions with kids!'
