One World, Many Stories

Michelle Olah, Library Technician at Kincoppal-Rose Bay School, NSW has sent in this creative and colourful display for Book Week. Here are her comments:

'I thought I would share with you our 2011 book week display. The idea was to connect an inflatable globe (which we purchased from the Australian Geographic store) with images of popular titles organised in genres to create a bit of interest and conversation between library visitors . We find it difficult to get secondary students excited about Book Week so we put in a lot of effort this year with our display. We also held a poster competition, created book trailers of the winning titles to play during breaks and had daily quizzes where the answers could be discovered by using our catalogue. We found it quite successful with our year 7 and 8students!'.

One World, Many Stories

She says:
'We’ve been moving into a new library and I’ve finally been able to have my first display which is for Children’s Book Week. The theme is “One World, many stories”. I’ve photocopied covers of books in the collection and then linked them on a world map to the place where they are set. I also asked for teachers to lend us some globes: as you can see I received some beauties! We are also running a quiz, where the girls have to answer questions regarding countries (real and imaginary) in different books. Example: In what city does Clary Fray meet werewolves, demons and shadowhunters? (Answer: New York)".

I really like the idea of incorporating a quiz linked to this display.
