'Thought you might like to see the origami flowers I've had fun making for our spring display in the library. Here are the origami flower instructions if you want to have a go yourself. (Maker spaces are for librarians to create in too!)
(Did you spot that the flowers are made from recycled book pages.No usable books were harmed, only books destined for the bin were used in the making!)'

New books are blooming

Martha has created this blooming marvelous display for Spring - read all about it below:

'Spring has finally arrived here in New Jersey, and we've used the change

of seasons to introduce some color into the library while featuring new

books. We made an assortment of multicolored tissue-paper flowers and put

them into colorful paper-cup "pots." We scattered the pots among a display

of new books, each sporting a bookmark that features a vintage seed

packet. (I looked for the most colorful book covers I could find among the

new arrivals, which is a bit difficult considering all the dark, dystopian

covers on YA books these days.) The signs for the display show a large

photo of a flower and the message "New books are blooming!" Quick, easy,

eye-catching'.

'Well it is spring and time to get carried away with reading!!! We had all our TA's create a kite along with the library staff. Loads of fun and now we have all the books on flight, or things that lift us!!!

Spring into a Good Book

Spring is sprung, the grass is ris ..... this suspended host of golden daffodils gently wave in the breeze as the students wander by .....

                                    ...... hopefully they will stop and take out a book!

Clouds and daffodils from Google images clip-art, printed on card and hung from green stalks. Happy Spring Southern Hemisphere folks! To those up North - search for 'Autumn' or 'Fall' in the search box for some great ideas.

Spring Tree

Paula is a volunteer at her local library which, since November, and due to budget cuts, has been running as a community library with the help of volunteers. The library is in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England.
Paula organises the children's events and has sent in this 'interactive tree' display which she has used to brighten up a tired corner. I think it is a charming idea. Paula was helped by Becky, a talented 16 year old art student and three creative children aged 3, 6 and 8.

'We had recently gotten in a huge shipment of new books and I wanted to let the students/staff know about them. I designed this bulletin board for the hallway to get the message out there. The headline reads “We’re Blooming With New Books.” My goal was to have it look as if a first grader had drawn it…very simplistic'.

Spring

'We wanted to share our new Spring Display which is promoting the books from the 2011 50 Books You Can’t Put Down list. To celebrate the coming of a new season, we gathered together the library’s indoor plants and purchased a few pots to “plant our books”!'

I love the way the butterflies morph into books.
I think this display could be used successfully at other times of the year too.

Spring into the library and grab a bloomin' good book

Karin from Regent College WA sent in this exceptionally creative display and I love the humour in the wording. Thank you so much for sharing it.
This is how she made it:
'The mushrooms were shaped out of chicken wire and then wrapped with fabric and glued onto a base. The mushroom tops were light shades cut in half, (from 'Thingz' or 'Ikea') with fabric spots glued onto them. (I had to strengthen the lampshades down the inside seams with cardboard and double sided tape.) The flowers were just made from crepe and tissue paper. The wording simply says "Spring up to the library and grab a bloomin' good book." The display is set up reception area.'

This is a geat idea from Pamela (Wellington East Girls' College).
Using Spring to encourage students to 'spring into action' she has displayed books about writing a CV, dealing with issues etc and fiction about girls making a new start or trying something new.
It is a great time to do something like this which is usually associated with the New Year.
Two lovely year 9 students made most of the flowers for her.

As we prepare for an eleven week autumn/winter term Glee is winding down for the summer break in Hawaii! Lucky you Glee - enjoy!! She has shared her last display of the year with us which I think is gorgeous:

'Here's my last display of the year, I just wanted something to reflect the blooming bursts of color that are happening all around us this spring in Hawaii. A fantasy garden of old book pages, the seeds of knowledge, inspiration, imagination etc that reading gives to us'.
