Here's an easy display - aimed primarily for our Services Academy - lots of 'action-packed' books for the boys and girls! I borrowed an old backpack, cut out some lettering from a camouflage background I got from 'Google Images' and hey presto!!

Wheelie Good Books

By Bree Forsyth
Bree Forsyth, Children’s Library Assistant at Fremantle City Library (Western Australia) has sent this funny and artistic interpretation of the 'wheels' display. I love it!

She says:
'The “Wheelie big books” display has been a real hit- the kids love a pun & the simplicity of the display means it’s easy to make - the wheel picture is from clip art'.

Wheels

By Elaine Pearson
Here's another one for the boys!
I visited 'Tony's Tyre Service' and got an old car tyre, cut out the letters to spell 'Wheels' stuck them to the tyre and collected together all my books on cars and bikes - fiction and non-fiction.
Cost - nothing!
Time - minimal!
That's the way we like it!

PS The book 'Motormouth' by Sherryl Clarke is great. I use it with my reluctant reading group who love it because of the story and the fact that it is a verse novel so there is less text and lots of lovely white space on the page, with pictures too! A real winner. [Click on the picture for more details]

Fuel Your Mind

By Elaine Pearson
I have used this simple display to promote some fact books, maths books, car books and science books. You could, of course, use this to promote anything from your collection. I have found that the boys have particularly gravitated towards it and I have taken advantage of their interest.
Try 'Fuel Your Imagination' for promoting fiction books.
The fuel gauge is from Google Images and has been enlarged.

At Least One Explosion

By Elaine Pearson
The idea for this display came from this great site: guysread.com - a web-based literacy program for boys.

The book, explosion and beanie have all been enlarged from clipart.
So simple! :)

Boy's Bookshelf

By Elaine Pearson
Well, the boys had to wait for a while but finally I got my act together!

Something a bit different - this book proved to be a popular choice - click on the image for details:

Finding Heroes: Be Inspired by Stories of Amazing Journeys

These Sam Stern books (there are three) are a great way to promote the interest of cooking with our teenage boys - it's hard to prize them out of the hands of the food technology staff!

Robert Muchamore's CHERUB series are probably the most popular of this genre in our school:
