It's not easy being GREEN!

Even though it's not easy being green, Kermit the frog is having a great time presiding over the library. This display is to promote the green books in our collection to help students with their selection for our 2016 Olympic Reading Challenge. To qualify for the golf event, students have to read a green book (golf green - I know, a bit of a stretch!):

Read the alphabet

Our school reading challenge this year is 'Read the alphabet'. Students read books with author's surnames beginning with each letter of the alphabet. When they have completed a book they give a brief summary and write the name of the book on their sheet with a rating out of ten.
It's going very well already and only two weeks into term!

Bingo Reading Challenge!

Each year we have a reading challenge, open to all students which runs for the whole year. Students can earn house points and prizes.
This year we chose the fabulous Reading Bingo Challenge by Random House Books. Have a look at their website for details: Reading Bingo Challenge

The inspiration for the Challenge comes from this website which has lot of ideas and some great activities:
Karen Collins has produced some great record sheets. (They are PDF files) I adapted the idea to suit our college and the students have to complete challenges such as:
Weightlifting - a book of more than 450 pages
Marathon - read for one hour straight
Triathlon - three books of different genre
Relay - you and two friends read the same book
Modern Pentathlon - Five books of different genres
