Dumble-door

By Kitty Penny-Larter

Isn't this display fabulously inventive? Thanks so much for sharing Kitty!

Kitty is from London. Here are her comments:
'This is my Dumble-door, guardian of my library.
I might change it termly or yearly to another character- I thought maybe Effie Trinket would also be effective, but I'm sure there's a whole host of characters you could do.
He's made of cheap cloth, cheap wool and staples, with a sanded-down twig for a wand.
Thought you might like to see him!'

Platform 9 3/4

By By Donna Le Marquand

What a great idea to introduce Harry Potter to a whole new age generation of readers. I'm sure many students would jump at the opportunity to re-visit these timeless books too! Thanks for sharing this fun display Donna.

Through the Trapdoor (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)

By Tracy Taylor

This mesmerizing display has been shared by Tracy from Clinton in Kentucky. Here are her comments:

'I took an idea I saw on Pinterest for a baby mobile and turned it into a library display.

Inspired by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's Through the Trapdoor chapter--- I created the "winged keys" and broom needed to get through the locked door. (well…my talented father hand-crafted the broom for me…I bought keys at Michael's craft store and cut wings out of construction paper…the key at the top of the broom handle has a bent wing!)

Students are loving it…once they decide it isn't a Halloween display and really take a look at it'.

It's great Tracy, thanks for sharing it.

Harry Potter

By Andrea Garcia
Andrea Garcia juggles working at the Aldama Elementary School in Los Angeles and at the public library - and she still finds time to do some amazing displays to promote the books from the collections.
She has worked in school libraries for 13 years and in the public library for seven years.

Here are her comments:
'I usually link to a week-long celebration which includes contests open to the whole school. These displays include a music playlist on my ipod to add to the experience. I love adding lights, too. I always say, since the kids don't have the opportunity to go to Disneyland, I try to create my own magic, with no budget, as best I can'.

The idea to link music and lighting to the displays is great and would certainly grab a lot more attention. Thanks for sharing your displays Andrea.

Franny has sent in several of her lovely displays. They are all very pleasing to the eye, with some great detail using related props. Hope you like her ideas and presentation as much as I do. Thanks Franny!
